Do you suffer from PMS symptoms that you have been led to believe are due only to stress and changes in hormones?
Have you intuitively recognised that there is more to this than we are led to believe?
Stay reading, because this profound wisdom from Dr Christiane Northrup could totally change the course and quality of your life!!
(And men, keep reading for the benefit of the women in your life).
A few days ago I was watching a PBS Special on DVD, “The Wisdom of Menopause” (the link here is for the audio version of this) presented by Dr Christiane Northrup (one of my most favourite teachers on women’s health).
While it obviously addressed menopause (and I highly encourage you to check it out to hear her indepth information on the topic), what I really wanted to draw your attention to here was what Dr Northrup brought up about pre menstrual symptoms (pms) and the resultant effect on the likely menopause that you would experience.
Dr Northrup talked about menopause as being a time in your life that can be very smooth if we have a handle on chronic stress.
If you have lived for years with chronic stress, and you are suffering from adrenal exhaustion, this can cause an imbalance in some of your hormone levels, causing symptoms that are a lot more challenging at menopause – like hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia and weight gain.
But more importantly is understanding what is contributing to the chronic stress. In the DVD, Dr Northrup very elegantly 🙂 expressed that
“If you have not dealt with the issues that have plagued you your whole life, they will come up and bite you in the butt.” ie, at menopause.
Dr Northrup explained that we get messages very early on about what we need to deal with in our lives, and one of the most prominent of these times is if we experience pre menstrual symptoms (pms). What is coming up emotionally at this time is what you need to deal with in your life.
If you push it down, it will continue to show up next month or you may also get messages via other times such as post partum depression or seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
And if we still ignore these issues, then we get to deal with the lot at menopause!!
I know when I was running my soon to be defunkt business back in 2010 and in my unhappy relationship, every month before my period I would be howling with emotion at how unhappy I was with it all. As the months passed, the symptoms got worse and worse.
Each month, the Universe was knocking on the door, telling me, it needed my attention and this had to change. And while I knew this, it took me a number of years to take the necessary action.
Finally, one day (after what seemed an eternity) it was all over and my ex and I very symbolically burnt one of the items from the business.
The messages and emotions that are coming up pre-menstrually are not just some pie in the sky type scenario; these are the deepest messages from your soul calling you to what you are meant to be and do in your life.
My soul was calling me to something far greater than what I was doing and it is only now at the age of nearly 43 that I am listening to these messages.
Christiane Northrup suggests that this time of pms does not have to be a time that we just try and get through, it can be a rich, rewarding time when we go within for a few days and listen deeply to what life is calling us to. The issues that come up are no accident.
It is a constant unfoldment, and a constant process, but don’t you think the most important thing is to honour what your soul is calling you to do, instead of honouring the many requests from others for your life?
If you’re with me on this one, and I’m sure you are if you have not yet gone through menopause, you’ll definitely be wanting to take steps to deal with the emotional issues that are coming up for you for the two reasons mentioned above.
1) To help you get a handle on the chronic stress that you may be feeling and
2) To ease your symptoms at menopause.
and how about
3) So you can life your most magnificent life!!!
Are you prepared to heed the very wise advice of Dr Christiane Northrup and look to what is coming up pre menstrually?
Or if you are already into menopause, are you prepared now to look deeply into what you need in your life, what you are being called to?
What has your experience been with pre-menstrual symptoms or the menopause process?
